Riva Police Use Children’s Checkpoints to Promote Road Safety Awareness
Sometimes the appeal of a child’s simple gesture outweighs a hefty fine. This is at least what the officers of the Polizia Municipale di Riva hoped for yesterday when they organized mini checkpoints involving elementary school children, during which the young and makeshift officers handed out friendly reminder notes to “careless” drivers.
Educational Initiative and Road Checks
Beyond the light-hearted jokes, this initiative is part of the road safety education program that, for years now, the Rivano police officers, represented by Marco Mantovani, have been promoting in the schools across the municipality.
Thus, placing cones on viale Damiano Chiesa, they forced cars to slow down just enough to glance inside and verify seatbelt usage.
In case of violations, as expected, a warning note was immediately issued. “We hope that at least this friendly initiative helps raise awareness,” commented an officer, “since many people just pay fines without learning anything.”
However, the daily news reminds us that seatbelts save lives…
