Rivana Urges New Dedicated Tourism Official for Local Growth

Divided between the Province (which controls the finances) and Apt (which works on promotion), tourism has never been, in Municipality, one of the most sought-after responsibilities. There is no memory of major conflicts over who should take on this role. A tragic mistake, according to the Rivana section of the Legislature, which would instead welcome the creation of a dedicated “ad hoc” assessor position. For the Carroccio, Mayor Malossini, who holds the relevant authority (but is actually busy with other matters), should relinquish this delegation.

“The Riva Comune, despite managing around one and a half million tourist accommodations annually, does not —” writes the Lega — “have an assessor dedicated specifically to this sector. Tourism responsibilities are currently retained by the mayor, who in reality handles it in a marginal way.

The municipality has only minimally concentrated on enhancing local tourist facilities such as the Olives Beach complex and the Lido Palace Hotel. There has never been a genuine effort to create synergy with other productive sectors, such as craftsmanship and agriculture.

To make matters worse, particularly regarding automobile traffic, the city, especially during the high tourist season, appears as a veritable open-air construction site. The management of Palafiere is a concrete example of administrative incapacity: the municipality could and should have simultaneously negotiated to purchase the former Cattoi area.

We can only hope for a radical change, which must start with the establishment of a dedicated tourism assessor position, entrusted to a serious person capable of innovative initiatives and of creating synergy between the tourism sector and the rest of Rivana’s economic system, to make Riva a leading tourist hub in Padania.”
