Riva’s New Road Project Advances with Expropriation Planned

Since the end of last week, the Comai bis project has been classified as a “definitive project.” This means, for those familiar with the never-ending bureaucratic back-and-forth, that within two to three months (and after two conference of services, which are meetings involving all the authorities necessary for approval: to speed things up, instead of having paperwork travel from one office to another, all responsible parties gather together), the expropriation procedure can begin.

Apart from minor less important sections, the main portion of land for the new road, which runs parallel to the Albola River on the right side (south) from the intersection with Viale dei Tigli to the intersection with Viale Trento, involves three plots. Of these, Telecom and Atesina are not expected to oppose or face difficulties.

The third plot belongs to the Tretter Sport Center, which might find expropriation advantageous because there is a non-official but real availability of creating a new entrance to the complex, equipped with pools, tennis courts, restaurants, and large, functional facilities, located right on the new road.

If there are no oppositions during the expropriation phase, it is feasible to forecast the awarding of contracts and the start of construction works in spring 2001. These updates were provided yesterday morning by Mayor Malossini and Vice Mayor Pietro Matteotti, accompanied by engineers Gobbi Frattini and Tiso.

Project features and technical details

The planner responsible for Riva’s traffic plan explained the project’s characteristics: a 400-meter-long road, with a width of 7.50 meters, at ground level and therefore lower than the riverbed (eventually, only the embankment will be visible). It will connect to two roundabouts located at the Tenno state road and at the 45 bis near the Astoria.

The second roundabout, particularly significant, involves restructuring the access points to the bus station by eliminating the traffic light: while the entrance remains unchanged, the exit for buses will be on the final stretch of the ramp behind the current depot.

The other roundabout, of elliptical shape, will encroach on the space south of the construction site, where buses from Mattuzzi often park, and will also cause some adjustments at the entrance of Viale dei Tigli. Parallel to the road, there will be a dedicated bike lane 2.20 meters wide.

The planned cost is 4.65 billion lire: 2.65 billion for work based on the tender, and nearly 1 billion for compensation payments for expropriations. Engineer Tiso reiterated that the extension of the Comai ramp is a small but important piece of the future traffic layout in the Busa area.
