Riva’s Riccardo Pinter Opposes Demolition of Miralago Complex

The association “Riccardo Pinter” of Riva, through its newly confirmed president Graziano Riccadonna, opposes the demolition of the Miralago Colony, as outlined in the current general town planning scheme of Riva, which is under review in Trento.

In a note sent to the cultural affairs councillor Luigi Marino, the Cultural Heritage Services of the Province, and the municipal library, the “Pinter” association describes the “disconcerting and paradoxical decision, also considering the need for publicly usable building areas within the lakefront zone” as a rejection of demolishing the Miralago complex.

Position on the demolition

“Such a proposal” – Riccadonna continues – “may stem from a lack of ideas rather than a clear design choice, as the potential swimming pool could very well be located in place of the Sabbioni colony or on private land facing the lakefront zone.”

Preserving the Miralago complex means safeguarding a site that “tells the story” of Riva and Garda tourism; for this reason, we advocate for a reuse of the complex primarily for tourism purposes, with special attention to its social connections.

The association also proposes that the revitalization of tourism can be achieved through high-quality youth accommodation: a youth hostel that could potentially support sports activities or other similar or parallel uses, to be analyzed.

The protection of historical memory can go hand in hand with healthy social and economic promotion, and the Miralago complex could serve as a paradigmatic example of this approach.
