Rivoltella Lakeside Promenade: Planning, Features & Next Steps

The project for the construction of the new Rivoltella lakeside promenade is taking shape. The Public Works Councillor, Tommaso Giardino, met with architect Dogliotti, the same who designed the impressive Genoa waterfront, from whom he received the preliminary project. Next steps include discussion in the City Council, then submission to the Brescia Environmental Heritage Superintendence (Soprintendenza ai Beni Ambientali di Brescia) for expert observations.

Subsequently, if approval arrives from Via Calini, the Municipality will be able to issue a tender for the contract of the work. The cost will be around 3 billion lire. It will be the last public project of the center-right administration before facing the electoral battle next spring.

Features of the promenade and technical considerations

But what will the new Rivoltella lakeside promenade look like, long dreamed of and pursued by both residents and tourism operators of the district? The route will start from the area near the public marina and end near Madonna della Villa.

As Giardino explained to «Bresciaoggi», the promenade will consist of a wooden walkway laid on pylons approximately 2 meters high above the lake surface. It will not be supported on the shoreline as initially planned, but will be separated from it by about 20 meters.

This is to avoid a lengthy and unlikely agreement with the owners of the lakeside properties (villas, condominiums, etc.). «The walkway,” says Councillor Giardino, “should not pose any problem for the landscape or the visual perception from the lake, as it is made of wood and blends well with the surrounding environment: however, the Superintendence’s technicians will evaluate the work».

The walkway will also be over 4.5 meters wide, making it sufficiently spacious to facilitate pedestrian traffic. The entire project must be carried out, as emphasized by the Public Works Councillor, by a highly skilled company with experience in maritime works.

Indeed, the walkway will rest on a row of pylons that must be installed on the lakebed at about twenty meters from the shore. «Only the wood needed,” Giardino notes again, “will cost around 600 million lire, as it is valuable and sturdy at the same time».

Along this extensive pier, numerous ornamental plants and some panoramic “roundabouts” are planned, where pedestrians can stop and enjoy the lake and shoreline views. Reasonable timelines are expected for delivery to the community: not before next summer.

In any case, this represents a second notable achievement for the district, after the reopening of the modern and functional Spiaggia d’Oro bathing establishment. Yesterday afternoon, the Madonnina della Villa, the protector of Rivoltella’s fishermen, was transported by boat from the small sanctuary in the area to the Rivoltella port. There, waiting for her were the parish priest and many faithful.

After the customary blessing, the statue was carried in procession to the new parish church. In a few days, it will return to the Villa chapel. The initiative was organized by the Rivoltella Zattera Nautical Club (Circolo nautico «Rivoltella Zattera») and the parish church.
