Road Repairs and Lake Transport Boosts on Gardesana Occidentale

The restoration work on the Gardesana Occidentale is progressing at full speed, following three landslides that occurred in recent months: one that interrupted the connection between Limone and Riva, another at Nazel south of Limone, and a third at Forbisicle between Campione and Gargnano.

By early March, the section of the coastal road south of Limone will be reopened to alternating traffic, along with the section passing through Forbisicle; however, this latter section will be open without restrictions.

Construction and remediation works

Construction of the new tunnel connecting Limone to Riva is set to commence before February 25, as established by the Provincia autonoma di Trento, which is financing the project.

Meanwhile, remediation operations are underway; a few days ago, an additional 25 kilograms of dynamite were detonated (after the 150 kilograms used last week) to clear rocks and unstable debris from the wall above the area designated for the tunnel works.

Lake transportation

In the meantime, the lake connection between Riva and Limone will be enhanced through the use of the two largest ferries operated by Navigarda: the Adamello and the Mincio, which will transport 56 cars per hour, along with buses and trucks as needed, for a total of 40 trips per day.

Finally, to reduce the transportation costs by lake, which residents of Limone have to bear, the Provincia di Brescia has allocated a funding of 60 million euros.
