Rocca di Manerba Natural Oasis Offers Guided Tours and Archaeological Discoveries

The ecological and scientific paradise of Rocca di Manerba within everyone’s reach. Starting today, the “Centro Naturalistico La Rocca” offers guided tours for schools and visitors.

It will allow visitors to appreciate and enjoy the prehistoric museum “en plein air” and the natural oasis with rare, sometimes unique, flora. All this is situated on the upland peninsula that extends between the lake’s waves, drawing in perspective the profile of Dante, as the imaginative Gabriele D’Annunzio once said.

Description of the Natural Oasis and Archeological Discoveries

An oasis of flora, but also an archaeological mine where the long-term excavations by professor Bartfield of the University of Birmingham have uncovered hundreds of artifacts telling the exciting story of the Benacense eras.

The goal is to present the fabulous Rocca as an articulated open-air museum, where the unique artifacts excavated by the team of the British scholar are thoughtfully arranged, with a prehistoric focus overseen by the scientist.

The medieval “tranche” belongs to professor Brogiolo from the University of Padua.

Natural Details and Archaeological Activities

This of the Rocca is an eden of prized flora, and in this context, professor Reisigl from the University of Innsbruck discovered a rare variety of orchids in the park: the Serapias Voronacea and the Orchis Papillionacea.

Archaeological explorations continue in the upper part of the Rocca as well as in the lower area, where the recent discovery of several mosaics suggests the existence of a temple, probably dedicated to Minerva.

The steps of the staircase, dating back to the 13th century, which led up to the castle, have also been uncovered.
