Rocchetta Tunnel Construction Begins to Reconnect Riva and Limone
In a few days, probably at the beginning of next week, work will commence on the construction of the tunnel that, passing through the bowels of Rocchetta, will reconnect Riva and Limone once again. The project will be carried out by the company Oberosler-Collini, winner of the tender.
Technical details and project timeline
Massive operation with record times: 960 meters of gallery and 160 meters of service tunnel excavated entirely in rock at an average of 21 meters per day, involving 90,000 m² of material to be removed, which will be transported by 150 trucks for each of the 120 scheduled working days.
Impressive figures that the two construction companies, Collini spa and Oberosler cav. Pietro spa, will have to confront.
Management and commencement of work
“To handle the commitment,” explains Engineer Paolo Nicolussi Paolaz from the public works and civil protection department of the Provincia di Trento, “the two companies have temporarily partnered.”
The tender was awarded to them a few days ago, but now some bureaucratic and administrative procedures need to be completed.
Once these formalities are settled, the work can be officially assigned to the executing company and will then commence.”
Start of drilling operations
At that point, the drills will begin penetrating the mountain from three different points: one from the north, one from the south, and one from the east.
The eastern drill, in particular, will be placed along the section of Gardesana affected by the recent landslide and remediation work, and will create an orthogonal tunnel relative to the main one.
After completing this initial phase of work (by late July or early August), the tunnel will be temporarily accessible.
The second phase will begin in the fall.
