S.Giorgio Residents Push for Night Truck Ban to Halt Noise Disrupting Sleep
The residents of S.Giorgio want to sleep peacefully and no longer want to be woken up at night by the roar of trucks headed to the Cartiere del Garda. Therefore, they are asking the Municipality to take action.
How? Simple: prevent trucks from passing through the town at night, specifically from 10 PM to 6 AM the next day. Even better if the ban extends until 7 AM.
The municipal administration has no objections, as Renato Veronesi said the other evening in front of the crowded town assembly convened by the comitato di partecipazione. However, first, they must obtain approval from the Provincia, which has jurisdiction over everything related to the Sp 118, and naturally, they need to hear the opinion of the paper mill.
Veronesi has committed to this course of action, and he will hardly neglect it, given that the local residents have promised to follow him until the problem is resolved.
Resident reactions
The other evening, the residents living in houses along the Sp 118 made it clear how determined they are to keep trucks away from their sleep. “When a truck passes at night, it’s not like during the day, because in the silence the noise amplifies and seems to last much longer,” said one of those present. “And this happens multiple times over the course of eight hours. How can anyone rest in such conditions?”
It’s impossible, replied the owner of small holiday apartments next to the road, who has seen several guests leave due to nighttime noise.
Traffic light system and roadworks
During the assembly, the discussion turned to the traffic light. It was decided to install one at the exit of via Passirone, so that vehicles leaving the town square to merge onto the dangerous provinciale have the right of way. For this, sensors will need to be installed to trigger the red light at the two traffic lights on the provincial road.
The proposal to reduce the distance between the traffic lights on the Sp 118, currently spaced 150 meters apart, was rejected. According to the assessore ai lavori pubblici Stefano Bresciani, such a change would face significant difficulties in the expropriation procedures needed for installing support poles.
