Salionze Enhances Hydraulic Safety with New System for Lake Garda

The modernization of flood control systems at Salionze, with an investment of 20 million euros, aims to enhance hydraulic safety around Lake Garda and the Mincio River. This project, carried out by AIPo and funded by the Pnrr and Mite, will improve the management of water levels, significantly reducing the risk of sudden flooding events that have historically caused substantial damage. The new infrastructure will allow for water discharge maneuvers of up to 200 cubic meters per second, providing better protection for shorelines during adverse weather conditions.

All active construction sites in the Mincio basin are expected to be completed by the end of January, in line with Pnrr deadlines. AIPo’s Eastern Lombardy Director, Gaetano La Montagna, noted that current discharge to the Mantovano area is regulated at 14 cubic meters per second to preserve the health of the UNESCO-listed Mantua lakes. Pierlucio Ceresa, Director General of the Garda Community, expressed satisfaction with the technical improvements, emphasizing that these upgrades enhance safety and management of the lake in emergency situations.
