Salò Earthquake: Analysis of Post-Earthquake Reconstruction

The Salò earthquake, which occurred on November 24, 2004, marked a dramatic moment for the local community and the surrounding areas. At 11:59 PM, a violent tremor with a magnitude of 5.2 struck the region between Salò and Vobarno, causing significant damage to over 3,600 buildings and forcing more than 2,200 people to evacuate their homes. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or serious injuries, but fear and uncertainty characterized that night, with sirens and emergency vehicles immediately springing into action. Years after the seismic event, post-earthquake reconstruction has posed a significant challenge for local institutions. Thanks to collaboration between public and private entities, approximately 121 million euros have been invested in the restoration of damaged buildings. Despite initial difficulties and concerns that the earthquake might be forgotten by the relevant authorities, the reconstruction efforts progressed rapidly, largely restoring safety to the residents of the area. The memory of the quake remains alive in the community as a reminder of the necessity for prevention in a region prone to seismic events. Italian Version
