Salò Hosts Historic Car Show and Boat Races This Weekend
Double sporting and folkloric event this weekend in Salò, featuring the historic boat races known as bisse and classic car exhibitions. The latter will arrive tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) in Piazza Vittoria, better known for the dock, and along the lakeside section in front of the Palazzo municipale. There will be a 1936 Morgan, a 1934 Lancia Figoni, a 1933 Ballila 3M, and a 1934 Fiat 508 Millemiglia. Additionally, a 1962 MG and a 1963 MG, a 1959 Porsche, a 1955 Jaguar, a 1961 Jaguar, a 1963 Jaguar, a 1952 Alfa Romeo, and a 1970 GT Junior. Also present are a 1966 Mercedes, a 1955 Giulietta Sprint, a 1963 Giulietta Sprint, a 1973 Triumph, and a prototype AR Casale Severstail from 1965. Some drivers will come from Salzburg, Austria. Among the participants, the Ferrari-Pasini team, winners of the Mille Miglia in 1996. At 7:30 p.m., the cars will depart toward San Michele (Gardone Riviera), then descend towards Salò, make a stop in Valtenesi, and return. Spectators watching the boat race will also have the opportunity to admire the historic cars. Sunday morning, the Circuito del Garda will take place: four laps around the route via Brunati-Campoverde-Cunettone-Zette-Gasome-Tro-Fossa. Afterward, the classification will be announced, taking into account the special chrono sections. The event starts at Laurin, in Viale Landi: “Although this is a regularity rally,” says Sandro Morandi, head of the municipal police, “we advise residents to accompany small children and keep pets confined.”
A historic reenactment of the old circuit, created by Aymo Maggi, Renzo Castagneto, and Gianni Ferrari, in opposition to the Automobil Club of Milan, which had moved the Gran Premio d’Italia from Montichiari to Monza. It was called “Small Monte Carlo” due to the lush hill and the blue gulf, forming the Salò-Tormini-Cunettone-Zette ring. Wide curves, tight hairpins, long straights, exciting ups and downs. The first edition was in 1921; the last in 1966. Not consecutive, but interrupted by long breaks. The event is organized by Old Wheels Veteran Car, presided over by Luigi Ragazzoni.
