Salò Tackles Urban-Planning Debate Over Lake Garda Development

Construction of a private residence in Salò that runs from the Gardesana road to the lake shore has sparked local protests and renewed debate over the development’s impact on the lakeside landscape.

Graffiti on the Barbarano site fence voiced local dissent while former deputy mayor Federico Bana said the volumetric capacity for the project dates back to the 1998 General Regulatory Plan under mayor Giovanni Cigognetti; he added that, although the building permit was issued during the Cipani administration, the urban decisions reflect earlier planning and subsequent confirmations in territorial instruments. The Cipani administration’s 2024 general amendment to the Town Planning Scheme reduced buildable surface in the area by about 20%, yet current municipal authorities ratified the intervention foreseen by the previous plan while acknowledging its impact on one of the remaining lakeside green areas.
