Salògolosa Food and Wine Event Returns October 6th in Salò
After the spring event, «Salògolosa» will return on Friday, October 6th, from 7 p.m. to midnight. It is a food and cultural tasting route that winds through the streets and alleys of the historic center.
By purchasing a card for 70,000 lire, attendees can enter restaurants, shops, private homes, and public buildings to taste dishes, sample wines, and listen to music. The evening will begin with the presentation of an award to Joseph Ferrari, the 77-year-old who hails from Salò and has managed some of the most luxurious establishments in the United States: from the restaurant of the Hotel Plaza in New York (between 1953-80, he received U.S. presidents, industrial captains, and entertainment personalities) to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel in Georgia, where in 1927 the Rockefellers, Morgans, and Pulitzers founded the Federal Bank, as well as the Radisson Suite Hotel in Dallas, Texas, and the Capitial House in Louisiana.

«An ambassador of Lake Garda, a taste artist, a master of our gastronomic tradition’s finest qualities», comment Angelo Dal Bon and Elena Maffizzoli, the main organizers, who secured television spots for «Salògolosa»: 12 minutes on RaiUno mattino, and another appearance on Rai1 International (within the program «I sapori d’Italia»).
In addition to the restaurants participating in May (Santa Giustina run by the Felter family, Trattoria Orologio with Brescia-style tripe, Pargone with pike in parmesan wafer, Lepanto with lasagnette with perch, Benaco with pumpkin tortelli, Sirena with small fried fish and meatballs, Campagnola with spit-roast and polenta, agriturismo Bagnolo with barbina in sauce, Melograno with lake fish soup, Damiano 3 Cantù from Serle with beef in oil), eight more have joined: Vaifro and Paolo Folli with D’Annunzio-style sweetbreads, Tana of Maderno with pike and leeks, Gastronomia Sbalzer of Brescia, Piccolo Grill of Portese, Fungo of Pieve, Villa Fiordaliso of Gardone Riviera, Capriccio of Manerba with tuna tartare or oysters, and Osteria dell’olio in S. Felice del Benaco.
All paired with local wine and extra-virgin oil, offered by regional companies. Many shops offer tastings of Franciacorta sparkling wines and Lugana. Plus, various appetizers, cheeses, and desserts. At midnight, under the town hall, there will be distribution of Serle’s chestnuts.
Some private homes will open their doors: the Lucini family’s living room, in front of the De Paoli pharmacy; the Palazzo del Provveditore, owned by James Ziliani, behind the municipality; the Emi terrace above the Vassalli pastry shop; the Frera tavern in Vicolo Tomacelli; the 16th-century room with shields on via Fantoni.
Groups of musicians, positioned in strategic locations, will perform jazz pieces. Some names include: Gianpietro Tonoli and Tullio Ruffini (the “local maestros”), Silvia Dalla Noce, Marco Bortoli, Elena Sbalchiero (vocalists), Marino Fracassi, Luciano Poli, Vladimiro Leoni, Marco Susa (guitar), Angelo Peli (saxophone), Valerio Abeni (drums), Marco Cremaschini, Roberto Soggetti, Oscar Del Barba, Mario Crespo Martinez (piano), Beppe Giocchini (percussion), and the Abastanotti Quartet.

For 70,000 lire, participants will receive a kit with a glass, cutlery, a plate, and a colorful umbrella to protect against rain, as well as access to the tastings.
