Scammers Faking Law Enforcement Target Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers
They pose as Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
They are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, law enforcement, fire brigade, or municipal police.
Beware of scams and how to respond
They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after collecting the money, disappear.
