Scammers Imitate Carabinieri to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines from the force.

They are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri—simply dial 112—at the first sign that you’ve fallen prey to someone who,

had the money, but then disappears without a trace.
