Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Scam Garda Hoteliers and Shop Owners

They impersonate carabinieri when making telephone contact with hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, police, fire brigade, or urban police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, no longer shows up.
