Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to the army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they ask for money, will no longer appear.
