Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

seeking money, no longer shows up.
