Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shop Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the army‘s magazines.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after obtaining money, disappears.
