Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scam artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, fire brigade, or the Comune firefighters.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, no longer shows up.
