Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Calls, Offering Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to police magazines.

They are not actual police officers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to fake magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

if they ask for money, will disappear without a trace.
