Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Businesses in Garda Region

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or to the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

after receiving money, no longer appears.
