Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Businesses and Residents

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be careful and immediately inform the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

having the sum of money, no longer makes themselves visible.
