Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Merchants

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the actual Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they were after money, no longer make themselves visible.
