Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Retailers

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have no connection with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the true carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after collecting the money, disappear and cease contact.
