Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Area Businesses

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone contact with hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the central and upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions related to the Armed Forces.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after receiving the money, disappears and is no longer visible.
