Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be from the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to fake magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, if they wanted money, no longer shows themselves.
