Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Businesses into Payments

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, ordinary police, firefighters, or Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, disappear and are no longer visible.
