Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after collecting the money, disappear without a trace.
