Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers in Garda

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, firefighters, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
