Scammers Pose as Carabinieri in Garda Area to Trick Business Owners
They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and high Garda area, offering subscriptions to army magazines.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, regular police, fire brigade, or municipal police.
Beware of scams and how to respond
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
So be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear.
