Scammers Pose as Carabinieri in Garda Area, Warn Authorities

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire department, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or to magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after collecting the money, disappear.
