Scammers pose as Carabinieri in Lake Garda region, warn authorities

They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners around Lake Garda’s central and upper areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

However, they are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after receiving the money, disappear.
