Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Business Owners in Garda
They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have no connection with the law enforcement.
So be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri—just dial 112—at the first sign that you may have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
