Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Garda Business Owners

They pose as Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not actual members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
