Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, variously, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal officers of the municipality.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

if they seek money, tend to disappear without further notice.
