Scammers Pose as Police Offering Fake Magazine Subscriptions in Garda

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, regular police, fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the authentic Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,
