Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Garda Businesses Into Payments

They pose as Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to police magazines.

These are not law enforcement officers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement (Forze dell’Ordine).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have taken money, will no longer appear.
