Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Hoteliers and Business Owners

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

So, be vigilant and immediately inform the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after receiving the money, disappear without a trace.
