School Assembly Reflects on 9/11, Initiates Peace and Charity Events
Assembly Dedicated to the September 11 Attacks
Special assembly for the students of Istituto Gonzaga, who chose to reflect on the September 11 attacks and the developments in the international situation. Following the lecture by Professor Paganella, who provided historical references to frame the recent events, a discussion among students ensued.
The assembly concluded its proceedings, expressing the students’ desire to actively commit to peace, anti-war, and anti-terrorism initiatives. The first event is scheduled for Friday the 26th: a concert will be held in the school premises, featuring six youth bands, with funds raised to be sent to Emergency.
Upcoming initiatives and school involvement
This will be followed, during the pre-Christmas period, by a full day open to the public, with moments not only of music, also aimed at collecting funds for humanitarian organizations. Also involved in this day will be the higher institutes of Asola, Desenzano, Lonato, Guidizzolo, and Montichiari.
“We young people are uninformed, and teachers have given little space for discussion on these topics. Even after the assembly, the only time we could discuss what is happening,” states Michele Schiavone, student representative on the school council, “is the feeling that they are not interested in bringing discussion on these issues and the initiatives we want to carry out into the classroom.”
The student representative hopes that this is only because they are unaware: “I wouldn’t want to consider other reasons. I hope, in any case, that the initiatives we are organizing can challenge the widespread opinion among adults that young people are indifferent to what happens and are not very inclined to get involved.”
