School Garden Launches Northwest Lake Garda Planting Project in Salò
A Park within the Park. Two hundred plants, typical of the northwestern part of Lake Garda, have been planted in the green spaces of the Istituto Enrico Medi in Salò, almost to bring the essence of the hills and forests of the Alto Garda Brescia Park into the school’s garden and especially into the environmental awareness of the students.
The initiative was presented during the traditional end-of-year celebration by the teachers of Medi (a Catholic school founded in 1982 as Media Parrocchiale), joined by the Itc Igea and the Liceo della comunicazione, the president of the Community of the Alto Garda, Bruno Faustini, representatives from the Park’s Volunteer Environmental Guards, and the Friends of Sport and Nature. The latter, coordinated by Piero Fiaccavento, guided the students in tree planting, with the trees provided by the Azienda regionale delle foreste.
Project and Objectives
The creation of the school park, now to be maintained by Medi students, represents the first phase of a much broader project developed by the architectural firm Barba e Salvadori. “The aim was to furnish the space,” explains Mauro Salvadori, “but more importantly, the park is intended to be a space that opens the school’s doors and makes it accessible from outside.”
The plan for the arrangement and furnishing of the external areas of Istituto Medi also includes the construction of a small outdoor amphitheater and an archaeological exhibition gazebo. Located on the side of the school garden facing via S. Jago, this will serve as a resting and documentation point, near one of the major sites of the extensive Salodian necropolis of Lugone.
