Search Underway for Missing Hiker in Villanuova sul Clisi
Search and rescue operations are underway since Thursday afternoon in Villanuova sul Clisi for missing 70-year-old hiker Fabio Beretta from Vobarno. Beretta lost contact with his family after entering hilly terrain between Villanuova, Vobarno and Roè Volciano. His last call to his wife said the path had become impassable due to overgrowth and that he intended to take an alternative route before his phone became unreachable. Investigators are also considering the possibility that he fell from one of the rocky outcrops overlooking the area, prompting firefighters’ divers from Trento to inspect the Chiese River.
The response involves the Valle Sabbia Alpine Rescue service, firefighters with search dogs, drones and TAS specialists, as well as Civil Protection and Carabinieri from the Salò unit. The search perimeter was expanded on Monday with additional checks along trails and near waterways. A coordination center has been set up at the Villanuova sul Clisi town hall, where Mayor Caterina Dusi is monitoring developments in contact with the Prefecture.
