Seven Women Launch Cavaion Olive Oil Association to Promote Sector

The number seven in Kabbalah is one of the perfect numbers and, consequently, considered magical. Thus, the “Associazione Nazionale Donne dell’Olio” (National Women of Oil Association), based in Cavaion, the “city of oil,” was founded under auspicious, at least numerical, signs. An association, as the name itself indicates, entirely female, established and officially recognized just a few days ago in Cavaion by seven enterprising connoisseurs of this precious product.

The members of the association and its objectives

The association comprises women directly involved in the olive-growing sector, such as oil producers, researchers, entrepreneurs, tasters, and professionals. In addition to the president, Maddalena Pellegrini, the association includes Cristina Dallago, Laura Turri, Matilde Poggi, Orietta Pavan, Maria Francesca Agabiti, and Cristina Salvagno. The idea of forming this group and giving it official status was inspired by the analogous viticultural association, namely that of the “Donne del vino” (Women of Wine).

The aims of the association are manifold, ranging from the development of a technical-scientific documentation center to the publication of monographs, magazines, and possibly periodicals; from disseminating sector-specific information and studies to promoting and supporting education and professional training courses. More generally, “the association aims to contribute to the improvement, through any form or media channel, of the knowledge of olive growing and olive oil by particularly focusing efforts”—the founding text states—“to bring closer the producer and consumer female worlds, promoting the image of quality olive oil both from a commercial and production standpoint.”

The unofficial goals and membership methods

Therefore, these are the official goals, but they must be supplemented—and here lies the explanation for a fully female association—with unofficial ones, mainly consisting of the founders’ desire to demonstrate that they can resolve long-standing issues, even in the olive-growing field. Seven women, as mentioned, but awaiting to become more numerous.

Only women actively involved in olive cultivation and oil production will be able to join the Association, including entrepreneurs, members of companies operating in the olive sector, producers, enologists, tasters, restaurateurs, saleswomen, journalists, and, more generally, anyone able to demonstrate participation in the productive and/or commercial circuit of the sector.
