Sirmione has been overwhelmed by overtourism, which paralyzed the roads and the historic center on Friday, May 2. The influx of tourists reached unsustainable levels, with long queues preventing residents from returning home or getting to work. This situation has raised concerns among citizens, merchants, and hoteliers, many of whom expressed their frustration on social media, calling for urgent interventions from local authorities.

The group Siamo Sirmione described the incident as “incredible,” emphasizing the lack of an adequate management plan to handle the extraordinary influx of visitors during the holiday bridge. Calls for the resignation of the Councillors for Security, Tourism, and Traffic have intensified, while citizens are preparing to submit a complaint to the Prefect. The group Insieme per Sirmione also condemned the “total chaos” and urged authorities to take preventive measures to ensure more efficient traffic management in the future.
