Recently, the Council of State has overturned restrictions on short-term rentals in Sirmione, a decision that does not concern the local Administration. Mayor Luisa Lavelli emphasized that the local regulation on tourist rentals, introduced in January 2022 to manage the growing phenomenon of short-term rentals, remains valid for business activities. Although the ruling acknowledges that tourist rentals cannot be equated with hospitality establishments, Lavelli stated that they will continue to monitor private practices to ensure the safety and sustainability of the town.
The president of the Sirmione Hoteliers and Restaurateurs Consortium, Marco Merlo, expressed satisfaction with the Municipality’s balanced approach. He warned that without adequate oversight, tourism could undermine the local social fabric. The measures currently in place include requirements such as compliance of facilities and accessibility for disabled individuals, aiming to maintain a balance between tourism development and the quality of life for residents.
