Sirmione’s Scaliger Castle to Host 30 Special Openings Through December 2026
The Castello Scaligero di Sirmione will be opened to the public on an extraordinary basis through a sponsorship deal involving the Comune di Sirmione, the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali Lombardia, and the Consorzio Albergatori e Ristoratori Sirmione (CARS). Valid until 31 December 2026, the agreement includes a program of 30 extra openings intended to widen access for residents, visitors, and guests and to highlight one of the region’s most important historical and cultural symbols.
The additional openings include holiday afternoon sessions, summer evening openings, and times dedicated to high-profile cultural events. Notable entries include three Garda Lake Music Festival evenings on 12, 13, and 16 July 2026, and the Magnificat performance on 19 June. Afternoon hours are 13:30–19:30, while openings for special events can run until 23:15 or 23:30.
The schedule spans summer and autumn, with the heaviest concentration in July (4 openings) and August (7 openings), and significant presence in June (6), November (5), and September (4). These extraordinary openings supplement the standard free-entry days on the first Sundays of the month and on 25 April, 2 June, and 4 November. Officials remark on the initiative: Mayor Luisa Lavelli notes the opportunity to broaden access to the fortress’s heritage; Rosario Anzalone of Lombardy’s regional museums highlights its role as a key lacustrine fortress and cultural hub; CARS President Marco Merlo emphasizes public-private collaboration to support tourism and local value.
