Slow Food Promotes Garda Truffle and Olive Oil in December Events

Even Slow Food joins the Christmas among the Olives. In collaboration with the tourism promotion company of the Riviera degli Olivi, the Slow Food branch of Garda Veronese proposes throughout December “Osterie del Baldo-Garda,” an event featuring the black truffle of Baldo and the extra virgin olive oils of Garda in two of the venues selected by the guide “Osterie d’Italia 2001,” the “Italian eating and drinking companion.” Truffle and extra virgin olive oil are undoubtedly some of the gastronomic treasures of the Garda and Baldense areas, precious gifts from a territory rich in attractions for those passionate about fine dining.

Promotion of Typical Products and Local Cuisine

“The promotion of our typical products and cuisine tied to the territory” – says the president of the api of Riviera degli Olivi, Enrico Merenda – “is one of the pillars supporting the tourist promotion of Garda and its inland areas, as we demonstrated during our recent presence at the Cibus Tour in Parma.” The collaboration with Slow Food, in particular, has already borne good fruit: the recent event dedicated to the typical Marrone of San Zeno di Montagna brought hundreds of food lovers to the Baldo between mid-October and mid-November.

Now, the agreement continues throughout December in the name of truffle and extra virgin olive oil. The restaurants chosen for this extended gastronomic event are Taverna Kus in San Zeno di Montagna and the Enoteca Il Giardino delle Esperidi in Bardolino: the first has prepared an entire tasting menu based on the prized “black tuber” of Baldense (the menu titled “Do You Know the Truffle of Baldo?”), while the second features a menu where the main ingredients in various dishes include some of the oils produced in the Alto Garda and Basso Garda areas of Verona, as well as on the Lombard shore of Benaco (under the motto: “Do You Know Garda Oil?”). All paired with Veronese wines: Valpolicella Classico Allegrini for the truffle, and Bardolino Classico Le Fraghe for the dishes with oil (both wineries are among those selected by the guide “Vini d’Italia,” also published by Slow Food along with Gambero Rosso). Some examples of dishes? Here they are: truffle-infused orzotto, potato gnocchi with cheese fondue and truffle, carpione trout with salad and Alto Garda veronese oil, potato cream with slices of Monte Veronese cheese and oil from Basso Garda of Verona.
