On the night of May 20, 2024, an attempted robbery at the Banca del Territorio Lombardo (BTL) ATM in Soiano failed. Around 1:30 am, the thieves tried to force open the machine on Piazza Don Vantini, likely intending to use an explosive device known as a “marmot”. However, they were disturbed by the movements of nearby residents and the owners of a pastry shop, and were forced to flee without succeeding in their plan.
Despite their attempt to tamper with the security cameras, the cameras still recorded footage that has been useful in the investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Salò company. The residents did not provide significant details to the investigators. The branch itself did not sustain any internal damage and remained open, but the ATM is out of service until technicians can repair it. A sign posted on the machine informs users of the inconvenience caused by the attempted robbery.
