Spiller Urges Interventions to Address Desenzano’s Short-Term Rental Emergency

Desenzano’s short-term rental market and the housing emergency linked to tourist leases have become a focal point of public debate. Councillor Andrea Spiller argues that owners’ preference for short-term, higher-profit rentals has reduced the supply of affordable housing and made it harder for residents to move to the city.

To push for action, Spiller filed a formal inquiry urging the Desenzano administration to activate a joint commission dedicated to the housing emergency, a body that has not met for months. He also cites Sirmione, where the Lombardy TAR recognized the legitimacy of municipal limits on hosting activities, suggesting this could guide proposals to regulate short-term rentals.
